Failure to Obey Traffic Light Dismissed in Rhode Island

April, 2024

Our client received a ticket for failure to obey a traffic light, a violation of Rhode Island General Law § 31-13-4 which states: “The driver of any vehicle shall obey the instructions of any official traffic control device applicable to him or her…”

This charge could carry significant consequences, including fines and an impact on their driving privileges.

Our team got right to work engaging in discussions with the prosecution office and reviewed all the details of the case. We then attended all court dates while we identified all weaknesses in the prosecution’s case. Our approach involved setting the case for trial.

In the lead up to the trial, we attended a conference with the judge and we had extensive negotiations with the police prosecutor. At that time, we were able to reach an agreement with the police prosecutor to have our client’s charges dismissed. Therefore, we were able to avoid the penalties associated with the violation, safeguarding their driving record and their financial standing.
