Possession of Cocaine and Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Dismissed in Rhode Island

April, 2024

Our client was arrested and charged with Possession of Cocaine and Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. Possession of Cocaine in Rhode Island is considered a misdemeanor offense and is punishable by imprisonment for up to two years, a fine of up to $500, or both. A DUI is a misdemeanor criminal offense in Rhode Island and has mandatory punishments of a license suspension, fines and fees, alcohol counseling or DUI school and community service. Both of these charges could cause a person to potentially develop a criminal record.

Our team worked closely with the Attorney General’s office to negotiate the best course of action for our client. This involved numerous court appearances and the time allowed for us to strategize and weigh our options. Through our negotiations, we successfully secured a dismissal for both the possession of cocaine charge and DUI charge. This outcome was a relief for our client as it allowed them to avoid severe consequences the charges could have brought.

Subsequently, we took additional measures to make our client’s criminal record was expunged. Therefore, they avoided having a criminal record from these two charges.
